The Santa Barbara Channel has several oil rigs, a fact which generates a lot of debate on its own. There is a whole new discussion about what to do with the rigs once they're no longer productive for the oil company. They could be removed, but they've also become an artificial reef by this time. Somewhat ironically, many environmentalists want the non-pumping rigs to stay.
I'm pretty good at ideas. I was way ahead of the market with my aromatherapy fabric softeners (what took them so long?) and sunscreen/insect repellent. One year, when the rig debate was clamoring afresh, I needed an idea for a business plan. The Offshore Hotel & Casino was born.
Imagine taking a sunset cruise out to the rig, the lights sparkling on the water, the sense of adventure, travel...
And just a dozen years later!
